based in bristol, space hardware is a project headed up by hypercolour boss jamie russell that is rooted in an appreciation of p­-funk and the outermost hemispheres of soul and disco. so far the imprint has released material from glenn astro, blacksmif, deft and placeholder and, continuing to shapeshift with each new 12-, the next in the series comes courtesy of apollo and delsin affiliate bakradze. also operating under his gacha and winter flags aliases, bakradze is an artist who uses his own live instrumentation, an mpc and classic korg synths to build rich and woozy melodies that he anchors down with technical rhythm structures. his message from home delves deep into this framework and is packed with a serious degree of flair. astute sound design, balmy guitar tones and loose, natural drum patterns pepper an eglo-esque sound in another fine addition to the space hardware catalogue.

first pressing in red black splatter! for the true and experienced lovers of authentic techno sound architecture, this record does not need much presentation. cari lekebusch has since the beginning of the 1990s been releasing a steady stream of vinyl records as well as all types of digital formats. since 1986 the personal label project of cari has been going through many phases of change. one of them being the ending of the hyb catalog numbered vinyl releases, and the beginning of the hp and hpx catalogs. to mark a reset and a >return to base<, cari is morphing the grid once again and will now continue the hyb catalog that shifted into the hp and hpx catalogs around 1997. the retro sounding audio-pictures of >return to base 1 & 2< are intentionally created with the various h-productions releases in mind, that came out around 1993-1997. both tracks are created with a cool, stripped down approach and recorded live with only what 2 hands can muster at once. live and direct from the hybrid productions headquarters! and not a cheeseburger break in sight! - with warm regards from stockholm

on their launch last september, australian label analogue attic promised to showcase the gentle side of electronic music down under. theyre as good as their word on this second release, which comes from rory mcpike under his rings around saturn alias. operating on a similar plane to the tactile, picturesque soundscapes of lord of the isles more spacey work, both erosion and portion 22 offer dreamy chords, becalmed melodies and sparse, spaced-out rhythms. there are a few sly winks towards vintage ambient house throughout, particularly on gypsy village, a luscious combination of liquid melodies and eyes-closed hypnotism. label bosses sean la brooy and alex albrecht go further towards vintage ambient territory on their sublime bathtime arrangement of portion 22.

athens of the north presents two of the disco floaters from our previously unreleased aotnlp original friends and buddies, both of these versions are on 45 for the first time. the stripped down version of silence that you keep benefits from the more direct tight vocal. without the synths there is much more space in the mix which suits the melancholy deep disco groove so much better. on the flip po man has also been stripped right back to its more basic elements also for the better, less is so much more.

deep disco warrior the revenge turns in an epic hypnotic mix of slow burning house nailed down by analogue bass and acid. using a filtered vocal it builds slowly as the bottom end is tweeked towards a mesmeric journey through minimal wigged out disco. sleazy mcqueen and romano arcaini turn in a disco inflected house mix with congas, spaces out synths and enough dynamics to keep any dancefloor bubbling. it builds with added percussion and a filtered pad before the lead hits the break and the track comes back in with even more wallop. drug empire is an original off the album and has had support from the likes of rune lindbaek, crazy p’s hot toddy and horse meat disco. said to be inspired by theo parrish’s productions it’s a delicious slice of bass driven deep disco with a nod to the looser end of detroit and chicago. it’s all about the fully locked in three note analogue moog bass which holds down the grooved out drums before breaking to jazzy rhodes at the end. one for the heads.

following 2013s ubiquitous smash untitled and last years heavyweight erotic discourse remixes, paul woolford returns to the hotflush fold with a double-headed cerberus, orbit/ mdma. flexing signature versatility, woolford goes from heads-down to hands-in-the-air in the flip of a record: a dance floor locked in to the twisted sirens of acid rave (orbit) experiences a sudden belly rush as it collectively comes up to piano breakdowns and female chant (mdma). towering and physical, the record epitomises paul woolford’s enduring popularity.

with sounds as smooth as butter and grooves as juicy as jam fillings, joe the baker gill has cooked up two fondant slabs of disco funk right here. theres a sweaty post-punk sheen to cant explain thanks its slaphappy bassline, fuzzy guitars and sultry vocals. mamba gascoine, meanwhile, is a foggier, swampy slice of cosmic, dub-minded funk designed for the darker, heads-down moments. remix-wise the everreliable emperor machine step forward with two epic, 10-minute workouts that explore every possible corner of joes jiggling, party-friendly groove.

angelo spencers third album is his most danceable work so far! written and recorded in chambery, france, in the heart of the alps (where he grew up) over the course of a week in february 2014. with the help of old friends and amazing musicians luc detraz (imperial tiger orchestra) and karol skonitcki (super fedor), love in the morning is a short, precise, and undeniably groovy love affair! with repurposed autotune and raw, uncompressed sound recorded by djan (the man behind the larsen records sound), the album is minimal yet so full.

the head of grounded theory berlin returns to sonic groove with his strongest outing on the label to date. henning baer brings forth a rough and tough diverse four cut ep of chunky rhythmatic techno. recording the songs during live jams and using a previously decided pool of hardware this ep has a nice old school vibe. the sound production however is very much in the modern day with its well crafted mix downs. this release has strong mass appeal for the purist techno connoisseur.

exciting 2nd release on the roze balletten label from belgium by a (new?) artist named walrus. a lovely 6track ep with a blend of house tracks ranging from melodic moody, jazzy acid injected to playful and even more stripped straight forward cuts. a new wave of bedroom producers is slowly penetrating the dance floors. excellent release that will go down well with fans of like minded releases mood hut records or going good for example.

we left herva & dukwa with a bunch of bangers with their latest ep -it fell down-… we found em back only after few months with their first lifes track longer player featuring an impressive variety of styles but always with their unmissable, raw and twisted up touch. this album of 8 tracks, spread in one twelve and a seven inches, starts on a side with the funky break of -needed-, continuing with the deep driving moment of -amore- and the hip hop beat of -put it on-. on the flip side instead we find the catchy vocal riff of the stomping roller called -freak with us- followed by the soulful ghetto tech vibe of “call it you” and the melancholic, romantic, stoned and rotten lullaby of -tired brass-. more tasty and unusual grooves are included in the tiny wax which close the record up, on a side the peaceful, abstract, suspended and atmospheric dimensions of * play with me* and on the other the glow-fi-sh and -emo--tech wave of -venere-. unmissible!
